Monday December 3rd was International Day for People with a DisAbility….
We celebrated a day early at an IDPwD event hosted my Tascare society for Children…we had a great day, so we were planning on having a quiet day monday with no appointments, a quiet day at home to catch up with the home duties, and to start to prepare Veronika’s FAILSAFE meals….
Monday started out like any other day…nothing out of the ordinary….that was until just before 12 noon…I was in the kitchen making stock for Veronika’s soup…Veronika was in the lounge room playing with her dolls house….when she started calling out/crying like I have never heard her cry before, I went over to her and then it hit me….BAM….I think she’s having a seizure….I ‘think’, because Veronika was seizing only on her left….I called a friend whose daughter has had many seizures, and she thought the same and said to call an ambulance….
Veronika stopped seizing just before the ambulance arrived, she had a 15 minute seizure, she hasn’t had a seizure before…
Veronika never does things by the book, seizures are generally all over, not just one side, from what the doctors told me, so she got them thinking….
Veronika was admitted overnight to HDU(high dependency unit)….for neuro observation
Veronika had a EEG done to following day….and the results showed no seizure activity while they did the EEG, but a slowing in the frontal lobe of her brain, on the right…
we came home Tuesday night, after the initial report from the EEG…and Veronika has spent the rest of the week recovering…
…today we went to Veronika’s school, and I was talking with one of the Dad’s, whose child has had many many seizures, one of the things I talked with him about is, Veronika has been waking at night for the last few months, some weeks up to 5 nights a week, really upset, and wants to be held, and wont settle back into her bed, I have been putting it down to either changes in her diet or muscle spasms, but how do I know that she hasn’t been waking because she has been having seizures….he said, you don’t know…but what he could offer was to look for symptoms after she wakes, that happened during/after her seizure on monday….
so that I will be doing when she wakes during the night with a really unsettled cry….
